Remember the last time you played a video game?

In a typical video game as we progress our characters level up. We get stronger and our weapons advance. But have you noticed, with the progression, the antagonists that we play against also gets tougher and harder to beat???

This is because if we face the same difficulties throughout the game we would have it all too easy and the game won't be fun to play anymore. Which is so obvious, right? So why is that when the difficulties in life show up, and when our life gets hard we all suddenly feel like giving up?

In a game as a player, time and again, we feel like we are barely making it to the next level until we do. That's when the "fun" lies. And, the game of life is similar to this notion.

Each year we level up.

We gain new experiences. We figure new things out. We feel like we are ready to take on anything life has to offer until we find ourselves in trouble once again. Everything goes back to square one. Things we know don't seem to work anymore.

Now if you're like me and you treat life like a video game; this is where it get fun. Every difficulty in life just like a video game has its own thrill. Every episode has its own excitement. After every struggle there is a reward and after every victory there is hardship ready to spice things up again.

Remember the Yin and Yang. Good can't exist without the bad. Happiness can not exist without sadness. If something is beautiful other things aren't. But at the end of the day it is all man made. Nature doesn't place things in buckets. It doesn't judge. And when it doesn't judge, it only accepts everything like it is.

For this new year let's remember this idea. Let's remember good; which cannot exist without the bad. Let's remember happiness; which wont be fun without sadness. Let's remember successes; which would mean nothing without failures. Let us remember how everything in life is beautiful because it is impermanent.

Much like a video game.
